Rumors regarding Apple to launch a new ‘budget’ iPhone have been making noises since early this year. It seems the ‘budget’ iPhone has been revealed when Apple announced the iPhone 16e – a new addition to its iPhone 16 lineups.
The new SE?
The iPhone 16e is said to be replacing iPhone SE, according to few sources. It will replace the outdated iPhone SE 2022 and marks as the ‘affordable’ option in the iPhone 16 lineups.
The iPhone 16e will officially be available in Malaysia on the 28th February 2025. However, interested buyers could register their interest at DirectD!
There are three variants available – 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. The starting price of the iPhone 16e is RM2,999 for its 128GB variant while the highest price is RM4,499 for its 512GB variant. Two colours options are available to choose from which are Black and White.
Streamlined iPhone 14 Version
The iPhone 16e appears to be a streamlined version of the iPhone 14, with some notable tweaks. It features a single rear camera, replacing the dual-lens setup, and swaps the traditional silent switch for the customizable Action Button.
While maintaining the same overall dimensions as the iPhone 14, it’s slightly lighter. The phone sports an aluminum frame, a ceramic shield front, and a glass back. The display is a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a standard 60Hz refresh rate, and it retains the older notch design.

Powered by Apple A18 Chip
The iPhone 16e is powered by the Apple A18 chip, similar to the iPhone 16 series, but with a slightly less powerful GPU.It supports Apple Intelligence, bringing AI features to the device. The single 48MP rear camera offers various advanced features, including 4K Dolby Vision video recording, though it lacks Action and Cinematic modes. The front camera is a 12MP TrueDepth camera, also capable of 4K Dolby Vision.
Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC, but it does not support Ultra Wideband. Notably, it utilizes Apple’s new C1 5G modem, designed for enhanced power efficiency. The device also features stereo speakers and IP68 water and dust resistance.
Surprisingly, the iPhone 16e offers a longer battery life compared to the standard iPhone 16, with up to 26 hours of video playback. It supports USB-C charging and Qi wireless charging, but MagSafe is not included. The device runs on iOS 18 straight out of the box.
