ASUS ROG Ally X Provides All Needed Upgrades

Great news for gamers! ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) had announced a new model of its popular ROG Ally handheld game console – the ROG Ally X. 

The ROG Ally X features the same AMD Ryzen™ Z1 Extreme processor, but adds upgraded storage, RAM, and battery life, including an updated chassis for improved ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity. 

Integrated with Armoury Crate SE 1.5 that features a new customizable game library and unified system updates, the ROG Ally X is built to #playALLYourgames better than ever.

Features Upgrade

The ROG Ally X amplifies many of its crucial internal components as it was designed with users feedback. 

The upgraded 1 TB SSD provides ample space for all games, a significant increase from the original Ally’s 512 GB. Additionally, the ROG Ally X incorporates a redesigned motherboard with an M.2 2280 form factor slot, facilitating smoother storage upgrades to larger drives.

The ROG Ally X also features 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM for more flexibility.The 24 GB system memory allocation allows users to optimize both system performance and GPU capabilities for better gameplay in upcoming AAA titles.

Lastly, the ROG Ally X equipped with an 80 Wh battery, double the capacity of the previous model, so users can game longer away from the wall.

Controls and Connectivity Upgrade

The ROG Ally X boasts a redesigned chassis in a fresh black color scheme, featuring slightly deeper handles and a more rounded shape for enhanced comfort, all without significantly increasing the device’s thickness. The buttons and sticks are positioned at a more ergonomic angle. Additionally, the macro buttons on the back have been downsized to prevent accidental presses while maintaining accessibility.

The joysticks have been upgraded to a more durable module with a 5-million-cycle lifespan, incorporating stiffer springs to provide a familiar response curve for long-time controller gamers. Furthermore, the D-Pad now offers more precise eight-direction input, ideal for fighting games and retro titles.

In response to user feedback, the original XG Mobile port has been replaced with two USB-C® ports on the ROG Ally X, one of which is Thunderbolt™-compatible, ensuring broad compatibility with third-party docks and external GPUs.

Thermals Improved

The  ROG Ally X features new fans that are 23% smaller, but utilize 50% thinner fan blades to improve airflow, in return to accommodate the new battery. 

The ROG Ally X incorporates two additional tunnels in the fan housing, directing airflow upward and outward toward a third exhaust vent located on the upper edge of the device. This innovative thermal solution increases air volume by 24%, effectively cooling both internal components and the touch screen. As a result, the touch screen remains up to 6°C cooler, ensuring a more comfortable experience during extended usage.
