Acer has unveiled the Chromebook Vero 514 which is built of recycled materials.

Acer has a line of environmentally friendly products called Vero, which includes Windows laptops, all-in-one desktops, and more. Today, Acer introduced the Chromebook Vero 514, which features an entirely new look and feel thanks to the use of PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic and “ocean-bound polymers” in the chassis, keycaps, speakers, and even the internal fan housing.

The Chromebook Vero 514 employs 100% ocean-bound plastic for the touchpad surface, 30% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) for the chassis, 50% PCR for the keycaps, and 90% recycled paper for the cardboard packaging, just like other Vero devices with an environmentally conscious design. The display panel is 99% recyclable, and the exterior of the laptop has a paint-free chassis.

This Chromebook Vero 514 redesign has a “OceanGlass touchpad,” which has the look and feel of a standard trackpad. Likewise, now the Chromebook Vero 514 meets MIL-STD 810H requirements and is impact-resistant as a result of all these design modifications. Additionally, according to Acer, its newest device can resist drops of up to 48 inches.

On top of that, the Chromebook Vero 514 might be even more interesting not just because of how it looks, but also because of how well it offers in terms of performance. It will come with up to an Intel Core i7-1255U processor and up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. Still, the first configuration that will be sold in the US won’t be quite as powerful because it will have an Intel Core i3-1215U processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD. Nonetheless, this is still a good set of features for a mid-range Chromebook.

In addition, it sports a 14-inch FHD anti-glare Corning Gorilla Glass display with 300 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB color range. Additionally, the bezels have been shrunk to enable a 88% screen-to-body ratio which was not seen on previous Acer Chromebooks. As for the battery life, it will last for 10 hours, but Acer has paired it with quick charging so that you can reclaim 50% of the Vero 514’s battery life in only 30 minutes.

Other features of the Vero 514 include compatibility for Wi-Fi 6E and an extensive variety of ports. This Chromebook will arrive with dual USB-C connectors, USB-A ports, and an HDMI port. Acer is now releasing an enterprise-focused version, which brings the same sustainability and performance enhancements to enterprises that are interested.

Acer has confirmed that the Chromebook Vero 514 will be sold in the United States in October with a base price of $499.99 (~RM2243), while the EMEA version will be released in November with a starting price of EUR 599 (~RM2674).
