The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is anticipated to bring significant NPU, ISP and GPU upgrades from last year’s SoC.

Earlier rumors suggested that Qualcomm would likely release two variants of smartphones’ forthcoming flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Recent leaks have indicated that Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship processor will feature enhanced NPU, ISP, and GPU capabilities compared to last year’s chipset.

Qualcomm will likely release the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in Hawaii around November, and it is undeniable that we anticipate more advanced improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset from last year. Despite the fact that the company has yet to reveal any additional information about the upcoming chipset, thanks to credible leakers, we now have some insight into the forthcoming chipset release.

According to Ice Universe (@universelce), the next flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be built on TSMC’s 4nm process. It also reveals that Qualcomm will use a 1+2+2+3 core arrangement, with a Cortex-X3 Prime core running at 3.2GHz, two Cortex-A715 cores running at 2.8GHz, two Cortex-A710 cores running at 2.8GHz, and three Cortex-A510 cores running at 2.GHz.

Meanwhile, compared to the SoC from last year, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has one Cortex-X2 core that runs at 2.99GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores that run at 2.5GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores that run at 1.79GHz. Also, the layout of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 is the same. On the “Plus” version, all of the cores have their clock speeds increased.

Lastly, despite what the rumors claimed, we still didn’t get access to any concrete evidence, particularly regarding the enhancements of the NPU, ISP, and GPU. Luckily, we don’t have to wait longer since the release will be about a month from now.
