MediaTek Unveils Dimensity 9500 Flagship Chipset

MediaTek has launched its new flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9500. According to the company, this chip is designed to improve on-device AI and gaming performance while also being more power-efficient.

Performance and Efficiency

The Dimensity 9500 uses an “all big core” design. It features a main Arm C1-Ultra core clocked at 4.21GHz, along with three C1-Premium cores and four C1-Pro cores. MediaTek claims that this configuration results in a 32% increase in single-core performance and a 17% increase in multi-core performance compared to its predecessor. The main ultra core is also 55% more power-efficient at peak performance.

Key New Features

The new chipset is the first to support four-channel UFS4.1, which doubles data speeds. Additionally, a new cache and memory architecture helps speed up AI model loading by up to 40%. For gaming, the Arm G1-Ultra GPU provides a 33% boost in peak performance and is 42% more power-efficient. The chip also supports double frame rate interpolation up to 120 FPS for what MediaTek calls “console-level raytracing.”

AI and Multimedia Capabilities

The Dimensity 9500 features MediaTek’s ninth-generation NPU 990 with the Generative AI Engine 2.0. It supports BitNet 1-bit large model processing and can generate 4K images. Other features include support for cameras up to 200MP, 4K video recording at 60fps, and MiraVision Adaptive Display technology.

The first flagship phones featuring the new chip are expected to be released in the fourth quarter of this year. While MediaTek hasn’t officially named the devices, it’s believed that the upcoming vivo X300 series will be one of them.
