Hello little readers, here we are again, back for another phone review! You’re with me on my foldable journey (yes, just say you’re with me 🙂), which began with the Z Fold7. And today, we’re diving into another fresh foldable one of the latest out there.
The guest of honor? (Cue the drumroll 🥁) … vivo X Fold5, so light, so strong. Officially launched on 29 July 2025. Without wasting another second, let’s jump right into the review!
First impression
I’ve had experience with foldable phones before, so this time, it’s going to take a lot to impress me. The first time I held the vivo X Fold5, I noticed how light it felt. Are all foldables this lightweight now? Maybe this really is the start of a new era. It weighs just 217g, with a thickness of 9.2mm when folded and only 4.3mm when unfolded.

This time, opening the phone felt easier too. Maybe I’ve finally gotten used to the amount of force it takes. That said, a gentle reminder, be careful when unfolding it. We don’t want any accidents or regrets, so I’m giving you an early heads-up!
When you open it, there’s no sound at all. You know how some hinges make a little squeaky noise? Yup, none of that here. And yes, you can see the crease (you know, that line down the middle 😏), but once you start using it, it practically disappears. Not gone-gone, but it’s barely visible. The screen looks smooth, like butter~
You know what I had to do next… the touch test! I can feel a slight ridge, but don’t panic, it’s subtle.
Working with vivo X Fold5
First thing I tested? Multitasking. I wanted to see how much it could handle. Turns out, you can use a split screen and open two floating windows (kind of like you would on a desktop). But if you try to open a third floating window, one of the previous ones will minimize into a little assistive-touch-style button on the side. (Don’t worry, I’ve attached a picture for you!)

As for typing, the keyboard automatically splits in half and takes up a good portion of the screen. But here’s the fun part, you can shrink the keyboard into a floating window and move it wherever you want. Just arrange everything the way that works for you.
If you want a little extra, just slide up diagonally from the bottom to the center and tadaa! you’ve opened the Workbench. It can run five apps at once, with four on standby at the side. Just tap to switch between them, that’s it. Impressive, huh? No lag, no stutter, just smooth, solid multitasking.

There’s a new feature called the shortcut button, and you can customise it however you like: torch, camera, voice recorder, anything that suits your needs. For me, it’s super handy when I don’t want to switch apps or need to access something quickly. Just one click, and done.
Camera

vivo is well known for its collaboration with ZEISS, and for this foldable phone, they’ve brought in an impressive camera setup: an ultra-wide-angle camera at 50MP, a ZEISS telephoto lens also at 50MP, and an ultra-sensing VCS bionic main camera.
The results? Sharp, vibrant photos, the colours are slightly more toned up, a little punchier, if I may say so (P/S: I’m no photography pro 😅). Maybe it’s thanks to their AI Telephoto Enhancement.
When you look at the photos, it almost feels like you were there, not just looking at an image. If that makes sense? It really brings the moment to life and for someone like me, that means a lot. Sometimes we don’t get the chance to return to the same place, so photos become memories worth keeping vivid.
The vivo X Fold5 comes with a powerful 6000mAh battery, a noticeable jump compared to the Z Fold7’s 4400mAh. With that much capacity, I wouldn’t even worry about being out all day without a charger.
Something is missing
I believe the vivo X Fold5 is the brand’s first foldable phone to officially enter the Malaysian market. Naturally, I expected it to come with a pen but unfortunately, there isn’t one. A little disappointing, yes, but maybe it’s something we can look forward to in the next generation.
Conclusion
I’m genuinely amazed by how far foldable phones have come high now (the standards are sky ☁️). And the way vivo handles multitasking? Simply brilliant. I was blown away, not gonna lie. It’s like having everything you need, all in one sleek device. Alrighty, let’s wrap this up.
