Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold: A New Chapter in Foldable Innovation

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold, its most ambitious form factor yet, merging a decade of foldable engineering with the demands of the mobile AI era. Slim, powerful and uniquely versatile, the TriFold transforms from a premium smartphone into a 10-inch workspace through a two-step unfolding mechanism, a design not seen in any other device today.

Designed From Experience, Built for the Future

The TriFold’s creation is rooted in Samsung’s long history of experimenting with screens, hinges and user behavior. Its inward-folding triple-panel design protects the internal display while a precise hinge system ensures a smooth open-and-close feel. An auto-alert system even notifies users when the fold isn’t aligned correctly.

Despite the complex architecture, the device measures 3.9 mm at its thinnest point, powered by a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a 200 MP camera, and Samsung’s largest foldable battery – 5,600 mAh three-cell system spread across the panels for balanced power.

Engineering Highlights: Hinges, Materials and Quality

Samsung reworked nearly every internal component to meet the demands of a dual-fold structure.

  • Armor FlexHinge: Two hinges of different sizes operate together with a dual-rail system for stability and a nearly gapless fold.
  • Reinforced display layers: A new shock-absorbing layer and stronger overcoat protect the 10-inch panel.
  • Advanced materials: Titanium hinge housing, an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame and a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer back keep the device thin yet durable.
  • Rigorous inspection: CT scans, laser height checks and component alignment tests are carried out on every unit before assembly.

A Productivity Powerhouse With AI at Its Core

When fully opened, the 10-inch display behaves like three 6.5-inch screens, enabling multi-window workspaces tailored for real productivity. Users can run three portrait apps side-by-side, resize windows freely or keep documents in a vertical layout for focused reading.

For the first time on a phone, standalone Samsung DeX offers up to four workspaces, each capable of running five apps simultaneously. Extended Mode adds a second screen with drag-and-drop flexibility, and Bluetooth peripherals can transform the TriFold into a portable desktop.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI features scale to the larger screen:

  • Generative Edit, Sketch to Image and side-by-side comparisons for creatives.
  • Browsing Assist for summaries and translations.
  • Gemini Live with multimodal understanding for contextual guidance, design recommendations and real-time help with shared screens or camera views.

A Pocketable Cinema With a 10-Inch Display

Despite its size when opened, the TriFold folds into a slim, pocket-ready phone. The main screen’s reduced crease and AMOLED 2X panel maximize immersion for movies, YouTube and games, while the cover display reaches 2600 nits and the main panel 1600 nits for bright, vivid visuals in any setting. A 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate across both screens ensures smooth viewing.
