Hong Leong Bank Now Supports Apple Pay, Starting with Visa Cards

It’s official! Hong Leong Bank (HLB) and Hong Leong Islamic Bank (HLISB) now support Apple Pay! It is the seventh financial institution to support Apple Pay after AmBank, Maybank, Standard Chartered, HSBC, RHB, and Wise.

Customers can now shop with ease at DirectD by using Apple Pay! It is applicable to all DirectD outlets nationwide.

Based on the official HLB website’s FAQ, only the HLB GSC Gold and Platinum credit cards are not compatible with Apple Pay, while all other Visa cards from both HLB and HLISB are supported. The bank’s FAQ did not explain why the GSC cards are excluded, but it assured customers that they would be informed of any updates regarding support for those cards.

However, Apple Pay is not available for HLB and HLISB debit cardholders under the age of 16. Additionally, Mastercard holders from both banks cannot use Apple Pay, though it appears HLB currently does not issue any Mastercards.

Customers can enable Apple Pay on their devices using the HLB Connect App or the Apple Wallet app. Do note that both primary and supplementary cards must be added separately to the Apple Wallet if both are intended for use with Apple Pay.
