At the Galaxy Unpacked event for 2022, Samsung has presented its new Galaxy Watch 5 series. You may already know that there are two Galaxy Watch 5 models: the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. These two wearables appear to look quite identical but we here to dive in deeper the significance differences of the standard model and pro variant. So, here is our summary of the key distinctions between these two.
To begin, the Galaxy Watch 5 comes in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm while the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, on the other hand, only comes in a 45mm size. Aside from the obvious difference in size, the rotating bezel, or lack thereof, is another difference that can be seen. None of the Galaxy Watch 5 models have a physical bezel that can be turned. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, does include one that has a fixed, thicker, concave bezel that more serves as an aesthetic feature than a functional one.
Design and construction material
In terms of its design, the Pro-labeled smartwatch is made with higher-quality materials. Despite the fact that both the Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro feature sapphire crystal display protection (with a 60% increase in scratch resistance), only the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a titanium shell and a D-Buckle wristband.
Comparing its specification
Despite their distinct appearances, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro share the same 5nm Exynos W920 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. At launch, they also run the One UI Watch 4.5 based on Wear OS 3.5.
The performance of both Watch 5 series should be comparable, although the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a significantly larger battery. The Pro model has a 590mAh battery, whilst the ordinary 40mm and 44mm Galaxy Watch 5 models have 284mAh and 410mAh batteries, respectively. In terms of its battery life, the upper model is expected to provide up to 80 hours between charges. Although Samsung smartwatches battery lives have been a concern on previous generations, it appears that Samsung has resolved this issue on both the Watch 5 model.
Exclusive health features on Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
The latest smartwatches from Samsung have pre-loaded with a temperature sensor and enhanced Health functions, such as sleep tracking and sleep coaching with sleep analysis reports, scores, and daily missions. In addition, they provide heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen monitoring, as well as ECG and snore detection.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has three Samsung Health features that aren’t available on the regular Galaxy Watch, including Route Workout with GPX file export and import, Turn-by-Turn Directions for hiking and cycling activities, and Track Back for retracing your steps back to the beginning of your journey.
